Jewel Changi Airport tickets: the S$8 attraction and what is free

Jewel opened in 2019 as a nature-themed complex wrapped around and linked to Changi Airport's Terminals 1, 2 and 3. It covers 135,700 square metres across ten storeys — five above ground and five below — and holds around 300 shops and restaurants, a hotel, early baggage check-in, and the attraction everybody photographs.

It takes roughly 300,000 visitors a day and recorded more than 80 million in 2024. A large share of them never buy a ticket, because most of Jewel is free.

What costs nothing

• The Rain Vortex — the world's tallest indoor waterfall, dropping seven storeys through a roof oculus into a basin surrounded by terraced planting. Free to stand under from every level, with a light and sound show after dark.
• The Forest Valley — an indoor garden climbing five storeys around the waterfall, with walking trails on both sides.
• All the retail and dining — around 300 outlets, priced like a mall rather than an airport.
• The terminal links — Jewel is on the public side, so you can enter from landside or from Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

What the ticket buys

Only Canopy Park, a 14,000-square-metre recreation floor on Level 5 under the glass roof.

The base Canopy Park ticket includes four things: the Discovery Slides (minimum height 110cm), the Foggy Bowls, the Petal Garden and the Topiary Walk.

Five further attractions are separately priced — the Mastercard Canopy Bridge, the Hedge Maze, the Mirror Maze, the Bouncing Net and the Walking Net — but each of those tickets includes Canopy Park admission. You never need to buy both, and buying Canopy Park separately before one of them is the main way people overpay here.

Child rates cover ages 3 to 12, senior rates apply from 60, and every child ticket holder must be with a paying adult.

Layover arithmetic

Jewel is on the public side of Changi, which is what makes it usable in transit: you clear immigration, walk to Jewel, and check back in afterwards. Singapore's transit visa rules and your airline's re-check-in cut-off are the constraints, not the walk.

• Under three hours — stay airside. Do not risk it.
• Three to five hours — clear immigration, walk to Jewel, see the Rain Vortex, eat, go back. No ticket needed.
• Five hours or more — add Canopy Park, or leave the airport entirely. Changi Airport MRT (CG2) reaches the city in about 45 minutes with one change.

Jewel also has early baggage check-in, which is the detail that makes a longer stop practical: drop the bags, then walk unencumbered.

Timing is everything

For the Rain Vortex, go after dark. The light and sound show runs in the evening and the lit water is the photograph everyone came for. By day it is impressive but flat.

For Canopy Park, go on a weekday morning. It opens at 10am. Weekend afternoons and Singapore school holidays fill Level 5 with local families, and the Discovery Slides queue.

Canopy Park closes at 9pm Monday to Thursday and 10pm Friday to Sunday, including eve of public holidays and public holidays, with last admission 30 minutes before. The rest of Jewel stays open longer.

For photographs, the Rain Vortex viewing points on Basement 1 and Level 1 give you the full drop; Level 5 looks down into the oculus. The best evening angle is from the walkway on the far side of the basin, away from the crowd that clusters at the front.

How to save

Do not buy Canopy Park separately if you want the mazes or the nets. Those tickets already include Canopy Park entry.

Check the resident and member rates. S$8 becomes S$6 for Singapore residents and S$5.40 for CapitaStar or Changi Rewards members buying at a concierge counter. That is a third off for a card most Singapore residents already hold.

Skip the 3, 4 and 5 Attraction Pass on a short visit. It only beats a single ticket if you use every attraction on it, and that is a two-to-three-hour commitment on Level 5.

Eat at Jewel rather than airside. Prices are mall prices, not terminal prices, and the choice is far wider.

The waterfall is free. If your budget is tight or your layover is short, the Rain Vortex and the Forest Valley are the whole point of Jewel and they cost nothing.

How to get there

Changi Airport MRT (CG2) on the East West Line branch, with direct walkway and lift access from Terminals 2 and 3. From the city allow about 45 minutes with one change at Tanah Merah.

On foot from Terminal 1 you walk straight into Jewel — it is built into the terminal. Terminals 2 and 3 connect by covered link bridges.

What is nearby

Changi Experience Studio, an interactive attraction about the airport itself, is inside Jewel on Level 4 and is separately ticketed.

Beyond the airport, Wild Wild Wet at Pasir Ris is about 15 minutes away by MRT with one change — the only other attraction on this site that is genuinely close to Changi, and a practical option on a long layover or a final day before an evening flight.

Changi Beach Park and the Changi Point boardwalk are a short bus ride from the terminals, free, and almost empty on a weekday.
